Dr. Rainer Friedrich

Dr. Friedrich uses his excellent legal and technical qualifications to provide individually tailored solutions for each of his clients. He is a passionate follower of cutting-edge developments in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.

Rainer Friedrich represents his clients before the European Patent Office as well as the German national patent office and the Federal Patent Court and is involved in infringement proceedings.

Dr. Friedrich has successfully prosecuted individual applications and entire portfolios. He has defended and invalidated patents and SPCs in numerous nullity, opposition and appeal proceedings. His expertise includes the coordination of multi-national parallel cases in various jurisdictions and the generation of freedom-to-operate and invalidity opinions. The majority of his cases relates to pharmaceutical drugs (e.g., antibodies and small molecules) and other subject matter relevant for the pharmaceutical and chemical industry.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Friedrich has been active in the intellectual property field since 2004. Before founding Breuer Friedrich Hahner, he worked with a renowned boutique patent law firm in Munich.

Prior to his patent attorney training, Rainer Friedrich earned a degree in biochemistry from the University of Regensburg. He was a researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried in the group of Nobel Prize winner Prof. Dr. Huber and received a doctorate in natural sciences from the Technical University of Munich. His research was published in Nature.

Dr. Friedrich has authored several scientific articles and published on legal topics.
