Dr. Markus Breuer

Dr Breuer is a German and a European Patent Attorney. He has extensive experience in all aspects of patent law in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, including supplementary protection certificates (SPCs).

Dr Breuer successfully advises and represents clients in all matters relating to prosecuting patents as well as handling patent oppositions and national and international patent litigation cases. Dr Breuer is regularly involved in opposition appeal cases before the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office and nullity appeal cases before the German Federal Supreme Court.

Dr Breuer’s work also involves rendering opinions on complex questions of validity and infringement and providing strategic advice.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr Markus Breuer has been working in the field of intellectual property since 1992. In addition to his studies of German and European law, Dr Breuer attended courses on American and international law at the Center for Advanced Study and Research on Intellectual Property (CASRIP) at the University of Washington School of Law. Dr Breuer also has a Diplôme D’Université D’Etudes Supérieures sur le Contentieux des Brevets en Europe from CEIPI (Centre d’Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle, Université de Strasbourg).

Prior to his law studies, Dr Breuer earned a degree in chemistry at the University of Düsseldorf. He went on to study at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (in Martinsried near Munich) and received a doctorate in natural sciences at the Technical University of Munich.

Dr Breuer has authored several articles on intellectual property rights.
